A. THE COUNTRY

The Slovak Republic is a landlocked country in central Europe.
This parliamentary republic is characterized by a wide spectrum of
parties.  Reform of state administrative sectors lags far behind
economic reforms, creating significant infrastructure problems.  It
is one of the strongest-growing economies in the EU, being boosted
by increasing privatization and foreign investment.  Unemployment is
a problem, especially among the older generation.  Slovakia is a
nation in the midst of significant change.

B. THE PEOPLE

The population is ~5,412,000 and the official language Slovak.
~79.7% are Slavic, ~20.3% Other (Hungarian, Romani).
Increasing wealth (for some) is accompanied by the new influences of
materialism and moral relativism.  Depression and suicide rates are
among the highest in Europe.

C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM

Constitutional freedom of religion is generally respected by the
government.  ~93.34% claim to be Christian, ~6.53% Non-religious,
~0.05% Other, ~0.05% Jewish, ~0.03% Muslim.
In the Christian category:
~79.75% are Catholic, ~9.38% Protestant, ~2.5% Unaffiliated, ~1.1%
Orthodox, ~0.14% Independent.
Evangelicals represent ~1.2% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~0.7% and of those ~0.1% are Pentecostals.
