ST. KITTS AND NEVIS
A. THE COUNTRY
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is two volcanic islands in the
Caribbean Leeward Islands. The government is a parliamentary democracy
and Constitutional monarchy (Elizabeth II). Tourism is the primary
industry with offshore finance growing rapidly.
B. THE PEOPLE
The population is ~53,000 and the language English.
~97% are African Caribbean, ~1% South Asian, ~2% European background.
Women lead 45% of the households. Teenage mothers account for 19% of
the total number of live births nationally.
C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM
~93.95% claim to be Christian, ~5.7% Non-religious, ~0.9% Other, ~0.45%
Baha’i.
In the Christian category:
~42.51% are Protestant, ~20.62% Anglican, ~16.6% Unaffiliated, ~7.64%
Catholic, ~3.25% Independent, ~2.12% are considered ‘marginal’, ~0.19%
Orthodox.
Evangelicals represent ~21.7% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~11.8% and of those ~7.8% are Pentecostals.
