ST. HELENA
A. THE TERRITORY
British Overseas Territory of St. Helena is west of Africa in the south
Atlantic Ocean. There are two dependencies: Ascension Island and
Tristanda Cunha, and also several uninhabited islands. The people have
the right to full U.S. citizenship. The economy relies on support from
the U.K. Isolation and the lack of an airport undermines potential for
tourism.
B. THE PEOPLE
~25% of the population have recently emigrated to the Falklands and the
U.K., looking for jobs.
The population is ~4,400 and official language English.
~99% are St. Helenan, ~1% Expatriate; also a transient population of
British and American military and some civilian contractors.
C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM
~94.7% claim to be Christian, ~5.1% Non-religious, ~0.2% Baha’i.
In the Christian category:
~87.88% are Anglican, ~7.04% Protestant, ~2.95% Independent, ~2.04%
Catholic. Evangelicals represent ~8.8% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~3% and of those ~1.8% are Pentecostals.
