AUSTRIA
A. THE COUNTRY
Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Government is a
multiparty democratic republic with a policy of neutralism. The economy
is mixed with strong tourist, commercial, agricultural and industrial
sectors. There are many trade and commercial links with Central
European economics, especially Germany. Over 10% of the workforce is
foreign.
B. THE PEOPLE
The population is ~8,388,000 and the official language German.
~90.1% are Germanic, ~3.1% Balkan, ~1.7% Other European, ~4.1% Other
(Turkish, Chinese, Afghan, Kurd).
C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM
The relationship between the state and the Catholic/Reformed Churches is
defined by the constitution. State legislation recognizes others as
religious “entities” without rendering associated benefits.
~82.57% claim to be Christian, ~11.48% Non-religious, ~5.5% Muslim,
~0.2% Buddhist, ~0.1% Jewish, ~0.6% Other, ~0.04% Hindu, ~0.03% Chinese,
~0.01% Baha’i, ~0.01% Sikh.
In Christian category:
~64.5% are Catholic, ~10.56% Unaffiliated, ~4.32% Protestant, ~2.37%
Orthodox, ~0.21% Independent, ~0.04% Anglican.
Evangelicals represent ~0.5% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~0.5% and of those ~0.2% are Pentecostals.
‘Marginal’ groups originating in Western society represent ~0.57% of the
population.
