GIBRALTAR
A. THE TERRITORY
British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar is a strategically located rocky
peninsula on the south coast of Spain in Europe. The 2007 constitution
reflects the autonomy and right of self-determination. The local
population resist Spain’s efforts to restore the Rock (Gibraltar) to
Spain. Most issues are being resolved through tripartite talks
involving Gibraltar, U.K. and Spain.
B. THE PEOPLE
The population is ~31,200 and official languages English and Spanish.
~66% are Gibraltarian (Italian, Maltese, British, Jewish, Spanish and
Portuguese descent), ~34% Other (British, Spanish, Moroccan, Jewish,
South Asian).
C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM
~84.8% claim to be Christian, ~8.9% Muslim, ~3.2% Non-religious, ~2%
Jewish, ~1.1% Hindu.
In the Christian category:
~74.66% are Catholic, ~6.53% Anglican, ~1.29% Protestant, ~1.18%
Independent, ~0.4% Unaffiliated.
Evangelicals represent ~2.9% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~3% and of those 0.5% are Pentecostals.
